Mortgage Rescue Scams

A note about the mortgage rescue scammer: The scammer makes money by convincing you to pay them money, under the promise they will negotiate and pay your mortgage or bills. The scammer never negotiates or pays any bills.

Mortgage rescue scams are becoming all too prevalent as more and more homeowners are forced to find a way to save their homes. This sad but true fact means that you have to be careful and diligent to protect yourself from one of these mortgage rescue scams.
Do not fall for the countless e-mail scams out there. Just as you are being promised money from Nigeria and you know it is fake you should know that most unsolicited e-mails about mortgage rescuing are also fake offers. Find a reputable company on your own and do not rely on e-mail scams.

How to Avoid Mortgage Rescue Scams
If you are looking to avoid falling for one of the mortgage rescue scams on the Internet you have to use your common sense. Common sense often goes a long way. If something sounds too good to be true or not right for some reason then you should trust your instinct. Also, it is important that you do some homework. Start with a Google search.
If you are considering a company to help you with your mortgage crisis make sure you research them. Do some Google research about the company name and read anything that comes up about them. You will find both positive and negative, of course. There are many blogs and forums that have been created to help people avoid scams. Make sure you ready these forums and blogs carefully.
Your online research is important. After you finish that you should also contact the Better Business Bureau and confirm that the company is registered. Ask if there are any complaints as well. You may also want to limit the companies you work with to those that are licensed in the state you live in. You can then contact the licensing board and ask if they are licensed, etc.

Avoid Scams by Getting Everything in Writing
Trying to save your home is important. Not falling victim to a scam is just as important. Make sure you ask for everything in writing. Never rely on someone you never met being honest or forthright. They may be honest but it is not worth the risk. Also never just rely on what they tell you verbally. Ask for everything in writing and read every word on the document. If you do not understand what you are reading make sure you get an attorney or someone else who can help you.
You need to actively and aggressively protect you interests. The scam artists look for easy prey. If you prove to be a more difficult target chances are they will end the engagement. Use common sense and you can avoid most scam artists.
